Rosacea is a condition characterised by redness, irritation, sensitivity and sometimes pimples. If you have it, you deserve clinically accurate care that leads to better skin health.
April 2026 is Rosacea Awareness Month. If you book for a Rosacea Consultation this month you'll receive a free Healite LED treatment at that first booking, worth $110.
Rosacea is a condition that causes flushing and redness in your skin. This can be transient but is also often long term.
Why does it happen?
You have something called a microbiome, which you can think of as an invisible barrier film over and in the top layers of your skin.
Inside this microbiome live many types of bacteria, fungi and even mites.
We don't know the full reason why people get rosacea, it's multi-factored.
We do know:
- there's a mite called Demodex folliculorum mite which is more prolific in people with Rosacea
- this wee mite eats sebum, then explodes in your follicle, which is very irritating to the skin and sets off an inflammatory immune response
- this in turn damages your barrier function so you get drier, and redder and more sensitive
- if Rosacea is left untreated for long enough, your skin will decide to grow blood vessels up into the skin surface to ensure quick delivery of immune factors
- Blood vessels don't belong up there! They have no support and so they get fragile and start to leak, hence the flushed appearance that eventually goes with all rosacea skins
Rosacea can feel like dryness or oiliness, and can still happen on a combination skin
Its main feature is you'll look reddened, maybe have pimples, and eventually become sensitised even if you aren't today. Because of the way the blood vessels break down over time, skin becomes more fragile with age. This is a key reason to treat it now, so you're not at risk of a very fragile skin in older age.
That's because the pimples are partly to do with how much sebum (oil) you naturally make, and this is not anything to do with rosacea, it's more to do with your own skin type.
It's also impacted by the overall biome - what bacterias are thriving, and which ones aren't? Bacterias keep one another in check, fighting for resources (food!) so when one is out of balance, they can all end up that way. You could be one of the rosacea sufferers who ends up with too much c.acnes bacteria, p.acnes bacteria or too much staphylococcus. Or none of those.
Rosacea is a truly unique condition for each person who has it.
It's so important that we treat your skin individually and don't resort to basic, one-size-fits-some attempts at skincare.
This is where our key range Dermaviduals really shines: serums, creams and cleansers and custom blended for your skin type from our compounding bar. There is no other range where you'll get everything you need and nothing you don't in a product.
Customisation is the best way to treat rosacea accurately, kindly and effectively.
This is so individual to you because it depends on which stage, type and how far the condition has progressed.
In its earliest stage, in a young skin, very little intervention may be required. It can be a case of using the correct skincare to balance the biome and control the flares.
Learning what your triggers are and how to avoid them is key.
After time with rosacea, the skins structure becomes more and more damaged. You may need barrier repair which usually entails custom facials and healite LED light therapy.
You may be on medication that makes LED light therapy inappropriate, so again, a skin consult is a must to determine the best approach.
For more advanced cases, we see blood vessels in the wrong part of the skins anatomy and we aim to remove those with intense pulsed light treatments by Candela, closing down the damaged vessels and stabilising the ones left behind. This is the key treatment for redness, but it must come after barrier stabilisation
To begin treatment with us you must book a skin consultation first and foremost. You can also book a customised Power of 3 Facial in the same booking if you wish.
Anything that causes your blood vessels to open/dilate and send more blood to the skin surface quickly, is not the friend of rosacea.
For this reason we suggest avoiding foods that cause you to become hot when you eat them. Everyone with rosacea should avoid alcohol, especially red wine, overeating and any highly spicy food. This doesn't mean all spices - just the ones that are hot like chilli.
Any food allergies should be identified and avoided.
If you're not receiving full nutrition, skin will struggle to heal. This means you should ensure no allergy to gluten or dairy, as both these allergies can impede your nutrient absorption.
Heat generally should be avoided.
Showers should be warm, not hot.
Absolutely no wet or dry saunas, hot jacuzzi's or hot pools.
When cleansing the skin use only lukewarm water to rinse.
Skincare is something you must not self-select. Rosacea is about biome balance, and your therapist is the best person to balance up the ingredient list.
Certain medications will make rosacea flare up, anytime you begin a new one please tell us so we can support your skin through the adjustment to it.
Stress is a known, definite trigger, due to the way it impacts your HPA axis, which essentially is about how your endocrine (hormone) system interacts with your nervous system and vice versa.
Keeping your nervous system regulated is key to healthy skin. This is why our facials for rosacea typically involve invoking a deep state of calm, while delivering the right ingredients.
We have been open for 17 years in this location, and for 5 years before that overseas.
We have never seen a brand work better on rosacea skin types than Dermaviduals.
The reason is simple. It is

We have helped thousands of people achieve better skin health. We would love to help you.
The main types of rosacea are below. You may have more than one of them. Rosacea often co-occurs with other skin conditions.
We most commonly see Rosacea plus Acne plus Peri-Oral Dermatitis, but there are myriad combinations
